Anyone have an old(spare) PCI-E graphics card?
Hey all,
A few months ago, you've probably heard me asking if anyone has a graphics card for sale or giveaway. Well, the only hope I had at a card (my cousin) didn't work out (his card was dead ;_;), so now I have no prospect of upgrading.
My gaming machine uses an old radeon x700, which I purchased 3 years ago. All low settings @ DX9 nets me 50FPS, which I'm very happy at.
Specs of gaming machine:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0ghz
Some mobo ;_;
1GB DDR 400 mhz (2x 512)
2x 140GB IDE drives.
2x DVD-Drive
Antec 350W PSU
1x Radeon x700
Now the computer I'm on mostly (12/14 days(parental separation issues, etc)) is faster, but slower.
Specs of faster-but-slower machine.
Intel Celeron E1400 2.0 ghz (which is a core2duo)
2x 140GB SATA
1x DVD-Drive
1x 250W PSU (15A @ 12v(EWWWWWW)).
1x Integrated nVidia 7050
2GB DDR2-667
So I play mostly on integrated. Yeah. Here's some pity-pix.
If you look at this chartyou can see that my card is quite low-end, with my integrated being all the way on the bottom.
So yeah.
TL;DR
Anyone have an old graphics card they don't use anymore?

Re: Anyone have an old(spare) PCI-E graphics card?
The E1400 wouldn't bottleneck it, and I can always get a power supply for Christmas. Or my birthday. Whichever comes sooner.
Or craigslist.
http://cleveland.craigslist.org/sys/1466932520.html
Magic.
And before Cpt. Obvious comes to ask why I can't ask for a video card for x-mas, it's because I need to get Windows 7 to fix the Vista, "Wireless association has failed due to an unknown reason," error. $80. And I might stretch for a 1TB HDD so I can store my anime that takes up 200GB of my 240GB.
Meh.

Re: Anyone have an old(spare) PCI-E graphics card?
hate to break it to you but your system is junk lol
i wouldnt waste win 7 on your machine if i was you, if anything id suggest you down grade to xp
although the 2900 isnt much compaired to todays cards but it is still years ahead of your card, and can play tf2 at max settings.
id almost even go as far as saying 2900 is probably worth more then your whole machine lol
my netbook is almost as powerful as your machine minus the graphics
1.7ghz atom
2gb ram
150gb sata

The graphics card is for my Core2 machine, not my AMD Athlon >.>
I have a WinXP serial key, might as well use it. It's supposedly better for gaming anyways.
Also, the Core2 is my first upgrading from my Athlon, which was my first upgrade from an AMD Athlon 1ghz processor. The difference is phenomenal for me.

Re: Anyone have an old(spare) PCI-E graphics card?
a celeron is not a core 2 duo, it may be a dual core but is not close to a core 2, as the celerons have a very low L2 Cache. and id be supprised if it was accualy was true dual versus like a core 2 quad wheres its 2 dual cores pasted together.
Id suggest to you down grading to xp then asking for a video card for christmas. and a power supply for sure 250w is way to small
go for something like this for video card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814150369
and this for power supply
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817159081
if your can go higher on prices i can suggest better things for you

Re: Anyone have an old(spare) PCI-E graphics card?
Like I said, I need a copy of XP ($80) or a windows 7 upgrade ($70) so I can use the internet. Then (if I think I have asking room) I need a 1TB hard drive, because I have 200GB of Anime on my compy that needs to go.
The E1400 is a core2duo processor. The E1XXX and E2XXX are nicknamed Celerons, and the E3-5XXX are Pentiums.

celeron and core 2 duo are two different series, just because its a dual core doesn't make it a core 2

Re: Anyone have an old(spare) PCI-E graphics card?
I see. Ahh well, still a night-day difference betwee an athlon 3200+ 2ghz, :p.
Well, I posted on a tech site (TGH), and my processor has a chance of bottlenecking an HD4670 -- most likely not a 2900XT. So if you really don't need the card, <insert paragraph of praise and/or cock0sucking>.
Thanks,
Steve.

Wow, that's great! My compy is an eMachines, and they locked the BIOS. I'm considering flashing it, but I don't quite have the knowledge yet. Not to mention the BIOS is the better way of doing it comparibly to software.
I'm in Northeast Ohio, area-code 44146. I'll pm the rest if you need them sometime soon.

Theres probably not a third party bios, so your probably screwed with the locked bios.

Figures. Meh.
Well, there is always software, and I read a few reviews on the E1400 that it didn't truly give any difference until you came to 2.6ghz, which really isn't that much of an OC.
