when you close a program it will remove its self from memory, if its properly coded sometimes crap programs will leave behind junk. reboot is your best thing to do anyways.

storage depends on sdd or hdd. sdd it will just be flagged as overwritable when delete usualy. running your ssd utility will clear that and write to 0.
hdd it will flagged as overwritable aswell but wont really affect preformance like an sdd overwrite

When you delete something off a hardrive it's still there until something else is written over it, I think it's really just deleted from the filesystem. In a normal drive I don't think it would affect performance at all, it just means someone could potentially get deleted files off the drive.

RAM is volatile, so as soon as you cut off the power anything in it would be gone.

Not likely, though I guess possible (the ATM card bit). If you clear out your cache and temp internet files, all your browsing stuff goes away. Firefox makes this easy, there's a "delete all history" option or something like that.
