Tf2 Hiccups

Post by wisoka »

So this seems to happen a lot to me now and I don't remember it ever happening a year ago. I'm just playing along mind my own business when the screen freezes and whatever the last sound that was made will repeat (which can be quite comical when i hear Bio say "Mom's Ass" 4 or 5 times in a row. This happens for 2 or 3 seconds, rarely longer than 5 seconds. I've tried just about everything to fix this damn major annoyance. And I'm looking for some more ideas to try. So far the only full proof way to fix it is to restart my comp and do nothing but play TF2 when it restarts.

I use win7 and I'm using NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX+ with the newest drivers. 4gigs of ram, 512MBs on the card.

This happens to me too. I have a feeling it has more to do with the craptasticness of my computer. I get a "hiccup" and then a huge fps drop for a little bit. Usually I die then respawn and its ok.

mine happens at random but it loves to happen when i get ubered. That way I look like a douche to the medic who now will no longer heal me because I'm a piece of crap who just stood their while i was invincible.

Should have put this in my first post but here are some things I've tried:
1. Disabled Multi-Core Processing in tf2
2. "optimized" multi core processing in tf2 (added like 5 lines of code to my autoexec.bat that apparently helped some people)
3. Set my settings to as low as they can go
4. Checked if video card was overheating during game play
5. Ran a multitude of memory checks on RAM
6. defragged hard drive
7. checked integrity of tf2 through steam (an option if you right click tf2 in Games)
8. updated drivers to newest
9. downgraded drivers to an older version

There's probably more but this is all i can think of currently.

I assume you've tried replacing the sound drivers also?

Not sure about your computer specs but maybe ubers are more graphics intensive? Does it happen a lot when there's a lot of people running around/spamming stuff/uber nearby etc? Or does it happen just as you're running around alone too?

this was happening to me to the point where my computer was overheating.

stephen suggested that i clean the fans on my graphics card and hard drive. i popped open my PC to find the fans clogged with cat hair (gross i know) -- cleaned it all out, everything worked a zillion percent better.

not sure if this will help, but it can't hurt.

If you'd like a good FPS config I'll show you mind. I get a solid 60fps in battle most of the time. It makes the game look like shit though.

What's a hitscan? You really play that way? No wonder you fucking rage uninstalled. That'd be like if my daughter drew pictures of tf2, and made a flip book out of them. "Fucking draw better, god dammit!"

Hitscan weapons are like sniper rifle, shotgun, minigun, etc. Low FPS doesn't matter for projectiles so much since you don't need the same precision.

Jane is right though. Keeping your graphics low helps you focus on the gameplay. Unnecessary flash that takes your eyes off of killing is a disadvantage I don't want. :P
