It would seem rather pointless unless they are referring to something other than integers and addressing registers. It would only make sense if we are looking at something other than memory mapping. 64bit can do something like 17 million terabytes. 2^64 I believe is the calculation.

(2^64) bytes = 17 179 869 184 gigabytes = 16 777 216 terabytesGodkills wrote:It would seem rather pointless unless they are referring to something other than integers and addressing registers. So 16.8 million terabytes? I see some posts that say this isn't true. IA-64 was a flop, so I'd be surprised if they made it IA-128. IA was Itanium architecture in previous releases.Joe wrote:(2^64) bytes = 17 179 869 184 gigabytes = 16 777 216 terabytesGodkills wrote:It would seem rather pointless unless they are referring to something other than integers and addressing registers. We can't even get Itunes to support XP 64bit. let alone 128. You have to understand stocks and corporations to understand this ploy. Microsoft doesn't issue dividends to its stockholders. This is fine as long as they reinvest the money in the company the stock price continues to increase and they can sell it for a great return. But Vista made Microsoft shareholders extremely angry because the stock fell in price and made their shareholders feel Microsoft was mismanaging money. Hence the reason Windows 7 was revealed as soon as Vista came out. This 128 bit report is one of those reports Microsoft must issue to convince the the stock market that it's investing in the future and this in turn keeps the stock price high. Are you kidding me, Microsoft knows that 128bit is a complete waste.

I see what they are talking about. It is more of x86-128 for lack of a better term. It isn't about memory registers, but rather support for longer code execution.
