SSD owners, I need your opinion

Post by PRETENDICA »

I was slacking and not paying attention to what firmware I had on my ssd, I'm getting ahead of myself...Chris comes over and starts playing with my computer and goes, this is an ssd? Then he installed atto and ran the test and it was slightly better than my 500 gb HDD :( So we looked into maiking it faster. Naturally we checked the Tech Talk section here at ATG... in the "7 Ultimate Tweaks & Utilities" at the bottom of the Table of Contents is a bit about RAM Disk. Do you guys use it?

Lets see how long it takes for your Windows to boot up.

-To do that, download the timer from here: http://www.planetsoft.org/utils/BootTimer.exe
-Remove your windows password.
-Run the program, do what it says.
-Post results here.

Yours is almost twice as fast, Mullet. Hrmmmm
Edit:or slower, whatever.

I'd have to get a new MB, Stephen, mine won't do 6gb. I just missed out when I bought mine, plus I was a cheapass. My next MB I swear I'm going all out on.

Steam, that's it. Unless there's a shitload of windows programs loading that they hide, I don't think that's the problem.
I noticed Chris computer do this too, after you reboot, it posts, goes through all the crap, then it goes to black with these 4 dashes up at the top left part of the screen, only they aren't dashes from a keyboard, they are video artifacts, hangs there for a few seconds, then goes to the windows greeting crap. It flies through the windows greeting crap, like 3 seconds tops. I think the hangup is somewhere when the video card is being recognized and those dashes screen.

I go thru BIOS and turn off everything I am not using. A:, 1394 and so on. The go to run/msconfig then startup tab and uncheck all the stuff you don't need like printer crap and so on then reboot. You have defrag and swapfile, readyboost and superfetch turned off with your SSD right?
Also try this.

Yeah, I did that. It runs a lot faster in ahci.

It's almost like it posts the video card last. and it's more 6 dashes, they're light blue, top left corner of the monitor.

pre do you have a cd in your drive

cause its probably checking to see if its a boot cd/dvd during those dash's

unless you have you gui boot screen disabled for windows then youll get 4 green dots top left

I ran it, it never told me the time, lols. But my mobo takes forever to post, if this counts that then I will have fail time. But once I hit the Windows log-in, it's pretty fast (way faster than under my old RAID 10 array), and I have a lot of crap running on start up (intentionally, I've disabled the Adobe crap and such). If I ever get a time, I'll post for comparison.
