How does the drive look in device manager?
If not seen in device manager check your cables.
Make sure your not sharing the same power lead with the cd and video card.

As far as ATI goes I have found that the 10.4 drivers work the best for TF2. I would set all the graphical settings in the game it self.

Hope this helps & good luck.

What I would do is get all your windows updates. Do you have XP? if you do get SP3 and install it. Don't worry about SP2 just install SP3. Then I would remove the DVD player from device manager and restart, windows should pick it back up. I wouldn't overclock the ATI card just play and have fun.

Uninstall it. Disabling and re-enabling might work as well, though.

How did you install windows without a DVD-ROM?

Well the drive is compatible with windows 7. Now all we have to do is find out if it's a hardware issue of software issue. Personally I would run Windows Security Essentials which is free and has a very small foot print. I may check and see if I could use a different power connector that may be free for that drive.

That's a great suggestion. I don't know how many times I've unplugged something, especially in my early computer building days.

1 - Using the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool v2.0.6*, I formatted the flash drive using FAT32 leaving all the boxes unchecked.

2 - I mounted the Windows 7 ISO using Virtual CloneDrive

3 - Then I copied the contents of the ISO (all of the Windows 7 files and folders) over to the USB. That took about 7 minutes.

4 - Lastly, I renamed the file on the flash drive from "BOOTMGR" to "NTLDR".

I've used this method several times. Mainly to avoid having to install raid drivers on XP with a floppy. It's faster than CD if you have a fast USB drive. Anyone can dl that HP

Push against them and make sure they're in all the way. What about your BIOS can you see the CD drive listed in your BIOS?

Also you could try plugging the sata cable into a differnt slot on you MB, maybe he has an issue with IRQ. I haven't seen that in years, not since windows95 so I doubt that's it.
