Re: ATI Radeon HD 5870
I've already got 2 of them in the mail on the way to my front door . Replacing my 4870x2. Going to get a couple of the 24" Samsung ultrathin LED monitors with the 1/8" bezel and sling em on the sides of my 26" for some 5760x1200 gaming actionStephen wrote:Yes there finally out, and are blowing previous cards away

Re: ATI Radeon HD 5870
Right now they aren't work the money. No good games support them, so buying them and playing any Valve game or even MW2 for that matter would be a waste. Great concept, but nothing even uses that technology so why waste the money?

Re: ATI Radeon HD 5870
Because, unlike nvidia, AMD/ATI prices their cards reasonably when they first hit the market... and I'm going to very soon also have 2 more 24" monitors set up next to my 26" that my computer will have to drive simultaneously while playing TF2.ROFL WAFFLE wrote:Right now they aren't work the money. Aren't you concerned about the line in the middle of your playing area? If your going to use a dual monitor setup your scope site would basically be invisible since it's dead center in the screen. For example, in this six monitor setup, the character is cut in half by the monitor's frame. Granted it's WOW but same thing applies to TF2.

Weird, I posted the reply about the multiple monitor setup, and included the screenshot. Wonder why it shows up as a post by Dannarhetoshi. I did quote his previous comments.

I think you edited his post instead of quoting it. The moderator log says you edited his post so I am assuming that is what happened.hulkvsspawn wrote:Weird, I posted the reply about the multiple monitor setup, and included the screenshot. Re: ATI Radeon HD 5870
This is all great and nice but it's just not plausible. ATI may price their cards lower, but do you know how much these cards will cost you in energy bills? Combine that with all of the monitors and these 2 cards will cost you into the 1000's of dollars. I don't know if you are old enough to pay bills yet but when building a PC these are all important factors. My budget billing for $75 before I upgraded my electronics. Now it is $155 after building a new PC, new 24" monitor, and a 55" Samsung LCD tv. That's over double and I'm only running two video cards. I guess I'm just so business minded that to me the internal rate of return for that setup would be nil, shit, negative nil.

Re: ATI Radeon HD 5870
in a 3 monitor set up, (5700x1200) the center of my screen would still be normal, it would just give me a very WIDE viewing angle. That's why I need two 24" monitors to go with my 26"Dannarhetoshi wrote:Because, unlike nvidia, AMD/ATI prices their cards reasonably when they first hit the market... and I'm going to very soon also have 2 more 24" monitors set up next to my 26" that my computer will have to drive simultaneously while playing TF2.ROFL WAFFLE wrote:Right now they aren't work the money. Re: ATI Radeon HD 5870
hmm considering one of these cards beats 2 4890's im pretty sure its worth the price since 2 4890's would come out to the same price. And im sure if he has enough to afford for 2 of these cards im sure hes got enough money to pay a 60 dollar a month electrical bill.
Also that would mean half the power consumtion, and one of these cards uses less power then one 4890. all ati cards use less power then nvidia cards since the 2900
Also you dont buy a video card to run only on current games its called planning ahead for games that are coming out, Also dx11 isnt even out till win 7 launch, also theres alot more games scheduled for dx11 then there was for dx10.

Re: ATI Radeon HD 5870
All valid points. I'm already an early adopter of Win 7, and my estimated Electricity Bill will only rise about 4-7$ per month. On top of that, I do a lot of GPGPU work, and the new 5870's will have much more in terms of GPGPU work they can do.Stephen wrote:hmm considering one of these cards beats 2 4890's im pretty sure its worth the price since 2 4890's would come out to the same price. Re: ATI Radeon HD 5870
you can only run 6 on the special edition one, which im sure most gamers wont be using
And im sure now that the technology is out that monitor companys will now start producing some seemless monitors
