Motherfucking ISP needs some respect slapped into it.
Apparently, my ISP doesn't know how to handle server load correctly.
Every day, at precisely 7-9ish my ping spikes upwards of fucking 400+
That's a server right fucking next to my house.
I just did it at 8:30, so it's not as bad, but at 7 o'clock TF2 starts to lag like every button just got remapped several times then a program that instantaneously wrote itself is trying to untagle the mess and send the right commands through.
On 0.005 MHz of CPU power.
So can anyone tell me how I can make this not as bad without suing my ISP?
BTW I'm supposed to be on a 6 megabit plan.

Your on an "up to 6 megabit" plan.
Key word is up to.

I've played with slower speeds and still have not experienced this kind of lag spike.
Anyway, would it be possible to reduce this lag spike?

I've been dealing with the same issues, but not quite as bad of a ping spike. It goes up about 50 ms at night so my ping to dallas is about 100-110. My only advice is to call and complain. It takes some persistence to get anywhere but if you call enough they should fix it.

I'm afraid to call.Mala wrote:I've been dealing with the same issues, but not quite as bad of a ping spike. It goes up about 50 ms at night so my ping to dallas is about 100-110. Last time I called, it was about my modem not working as well as it was advertised.

Think about this - you're paying for a service and you are not getting that service. Don't you think its within your right to call and complain until they fix it?Light Of Darkness wrote:I'm afraid to call.Mala wrote:I've been dealing with the same issues, but not quite as bad of a ping spike. bitching is the only way to get a response from big companies. unless you actually appear legitimately pissed off, they're going to ignore you for the most part.
as mala said, you're not getting what you paid for.

I know, ISP companies have customer service departments staffed by bloody C'thulhu or something.

I've delt with Bells tech support before, most of time I've called I've gotten someone in India who barely speaks English. One time I somehow got a center in Thunder Bay and they sent a technician the next day.
He ended up redoing a bunch of lines in our house and got it working.

Oh by the way, make sure you're not advertised as 15 Mega-BITS per seconds. Much different than 15 Mega-BYTES per second.

As far as I know, internet speeds are almost universally measured on megabits, or Mb/s or Mbit/s as I said above. Mega-BYTES is abbreviated as MB and is never really used for network speed. So yes, my speed is in mega-BITs...along with the rest of the world.Magus wrote:Oh by the way, make sure you're not advertised as 15 Mega-BITS per seconds. Let me know what cable modems you have? Most modems have web based signal page with some numbers I can shed a little light on. For most modems just type in 192.168.100.1 into the browser and it should have many pages but we are looking for the SIGNAL page if you find that take a screen shot and post it. kthxby

That doesn't seem to be working for some reason.
Also, my connection was just bumped up about 100 KB/s. weird (still takes FOREVER to download any games though)
