new graphics card

Post by Killer »

so when i play stalker call of pripyat my entire computer shuts down without warning when i try to play. so i checked it under canyourunit and it turns out that i need a new graphics card with a little more umph, and it recommended that i get a

512 MB DirectX® 9.0c compatible card / NVIDIA® GeForce™ 9800 GTX / ATI Radeon™ HD 4850

now i am not very good at this tech stuff so if you could help me find this or something close enough so that i can run the game that would help a lot. also as i do not have a job atm i would like to keep it on the cheaper side.

thanks in advance
Killer.

How much are you willing to spend? Going by newegg a gtx cost about $119 and a 4850 is $90. You'd be better off getting the 4850. If you have to save up to buy one, like me, then you should try and save about $120. You could get a 5750 for that much and you'd be set for awhile.

http://www.newegg.com

Go nowhere else. Although once in a blue moon TigerDirect is cheaper.

Although if you can get a hold of an .edu email address, amazon has free prime shipping for students.

And Newegg does free shipping on half their items every day. I've paid very little in shipping to them despite all I've ordered (built 3 comps in 2 years, of course only one is mine...).

Just as long as you don't live in California. We get charged sales tax for online stuff too. BTW, a sales tax increase of 1.1% in a very short time (2.1% in the area next to me) turns out to be a lot in the long run or when buying nice computer parts. What I'm trying to say is make sure you calculate in sales tax if you have to.

Good call. But pretty much anything online charges tax in CAL, it's still cheaper than in-store.

My monitor and chassis were actually much cheaper in a store (not even counting shipping).

It can happen, just not often.
