Re: Ethernet cables?
Unless you have near-Gigabit speed internet coming into your house (and you don't), it won't really matter. Most of my cables are home-built (5E-compliant I believe), lol. And I actually get near-gigabit transfer speeds computer-to-computer within my place anyway (~100MB/s).

Re: Thinking of a new desktop
Isn't that virtually the same fan that comes with the H100i? They used SP120s on the new 100i (I know it was a different fan for the non-i version), which were supposed to be tweaked SP120s, according to what I remember reading at the time. Edit for Marcus: My H100i fans are locked to 1100 RPM. Not ...

Re: Thinking of a new desktop
Marcus, I was able to mostly silence my H100i fans by downspeeding them to like 900 RPM or something like that (I'll check tonight). CPU never tops 55C or so on me even with that locked speed. 1100RPM and up was stupidly noisy (which is what the balanced option set them to iirc). I mean, like wtf no...

Re: Thinking of a new desktop
Nothing really to say with that build list, looks real solid. As for RAM, I'm not sure what you are spending on the 2x8GB Vengeance, but I got 4x4GB myself to get lower timings, as 16GB was plenty. Total was about $100 iirc, though I hit a bunch of sales. A couple weeks ago I did get Crucial Ballist...

Makes sense. I don't think it's had >6 people on in close to 2 months now... Too bad.Newman wrote:Due to lack of interest in the Badwater server will be shutting it down in two days.

I've been saying for >2 years I would sell my old 9800GT's...never did, and now they're probably not worth the bother, lol. Kudos to you for not being lazy like me

Re: Thinking of building a PC
I was going to mention the PCIe cable too, then figured you had it in since you showed a pic of the machine booted. That case's hard drive trays have mounting points for 2.5" HDD/SSDs. Quite handy, though the trays are a lot more solid with a 3.5" drive. (I have the same case). You can pul...

Re: Thinking of building a PC
i dont know where you pull your facts from but the 840 is just slightly slower then the pro http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ssd-recommendation-benchmark,3269-6.html Well that list's declared specs blows the pants off ones I saw last fall when it came out. Perhaps something changed since then, i...

840 Pro is faster, 840 reg. isn't really. But both are obviously still better than a spinner of course.

Re: Thinking of building a PC
Haswell isn't going to be that big a deal on the desktop front if you want to game heavily, just a slight uptick in CPU performance. Haswell's GPU will be roughly 2x as powerful as Ivy's (which was surprisingly decent, but still no replacement for a real gaming card). Haswell will be a low-power chi...

Re: Thinking of building a PC
The 2560 x 1440 is the iMac, which as far as I know I couldn't drive from a PC anyways. My second monitor is only 1680x1050. Also, idk if I'll need a new PSU I have a Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU 500W ATX 12V 2.0 Power Supply in my old PC, not sure if 500W would be enough power for new stuff. Ah, ...

Re: Thinking of building a PC
I've got a couple of basic USB+VGA KVMs that I've used for various reasons. You'll want a pretty decent one if you are going to be using it to feed your gaming monitor (plus VGA won't do 1440p anyway). Also, if you have non-standard keys on your keyboard (i.e. macro keys, shortcut keys and the like)...

Re: I'm bummed...
UPS fucked up the label, and they have to send it back to the company to check if it's damaged. Then they'll send it to me. Hooray! Good news. Well, that's mostly good news then! I'll leave aside questions of how an automated system messes up a shipping label...my guess is what really happened was ...

Re: I'm bummed...
UPS just randomly loses crap sometimes too. I've had it happen a few times. And don't bother calling UPS to sort it out, they will only tell you what the tracking screen says, which you already have the info to. (FWIW, FedEx is no better, and in fact is worse in a number of other things). But you wa...
