Re: SSD Harddrive
I love my ssd, although it doesn't quite reach the read/write rates it should :\, so I'm still messing around with it. Anyone know if running your computer AHCI mode will greatly improve read/write speeds? An SSD should NEVER be run in IDE mode. It cripples not just the sequential speeds, but the r...

Re: SSD Harddrive
I'm building a new comp soon. Is it a safe investment to get a small SSD for the OS and frequently used programs/games and then a large SATA for everything else? The main reason I ask is that I'm concerned about the life of the SSD's. I know they generally don't last as long and I don't want to buy...

Re: SSD Harddrive
I finally invested in a SSD drive for my laptop, got an Intel 520 Series 120GB for 160$. Boot used to take 1-2 minutes (newly reformated HDD about 4 months ago), now it's down to 30 seconds flat with steam loaded and logged on. I will never go back to HDD for booting or frequently used programs. En...

Re: My FUCKING MoBO
p67 was made for Sandy Bridge too and actually came out with Sandy at launch, z68 was released later but also made for Sandy. That one you linked looks fine.

Re: My FUCKING MoBO
+1 to Gigabyte. I've build/had friends build about 10 computers with them over the last 3 years, no issues at all. They are sometimes a tad more expensive though. Asus is hit-or-miss from what I've seen in reviews, not that that necessarily means anything. And Stephen is messing with you if you didn...

Re: My FUCKING MoBO
Compatible, yes. Personally I'm not a fan of ASRock, but that doesn't mean it isn't a good board. Z68 is a cool chipset. That one does only have one slot for a GPU though, if that matters to you (you won't be able to SLI/XFire someday).

Re: My FUCKING MoBO
For a mobo that works with your stuff: any mobo that is socket 1155 (you have a Sandy Bridge CPU, right?) with at least one PCIe x16 slot should work.

Nice view TX! NOT trying to 1-up you, just showing my lunchtime view this past Monday (the 12th): P3120628.JPG That's Mount Washington, I hiked it 2 days before, but was in a cloud that day, so not much of a pic. Not much snow left up there! (seriously, only a couple inches, it's been in the high-30...

Re: new comp, still no wired connection
madmatt: well, the regular 560 ti is coming in the mail already (should arrive by tomorrow the latest). if i was able to capitalize on the 448 deal 2 weeks ago ($240 +batman AA), i definitely would have chose that. stephen: how much hotter would it have been? i never planned on doing sli anyway i s...

Re: new comp, still no wired connection
But then again isn't bridging 2 routers the same thing as using a wireless card? Basically, yup. Byron, the 448 core 560TI is definitely better than a reg 560TI, the 448 core is VERY close to a 570 performance out of the box, and overclocks almost as well as the reg 560TI (but has the extra cores w...

Re: Question about GPU/mobo compatibility
Performance of Ivy is going to be slightly better than Sandy Bridge, but not massively. The integrated GPU is 60% more powerful, but you won't be using that so who cares. As Stephen said, the power draw is insanely lower for Ivy Bridge versus Sandy Bridge (77W versus 95W for the i7's). Price point w...
