Re: Badwater Revival?
I'm certainly interested, and I'd be happy to throw a little money into the pot. One big question if we decided to do this would be whether to enter the server in quickplay or not. It'll throw a lot of traffic towards the server, which would certainly help populate it. It's not like we aren't alread...

Re: Some tips for building a computer
Pre-applied paste has the advantage of being applied really well. If you can apply thermal paste as well as whatever machine they have in their factory, then you are a god among men.

Apparently he did take approximately 250 crates, however.
I think I'm actually grateful for that. It means I don't have to delete them.

Re: Is this a good deal?
That HDD does have a 6.0 gb/s interface matt, which drives the price up. It might not be useful, but it's still more expensive. (For reference, a increasing the interface speed is like raising the speed limit on a road from 40 mph to 60 mph, when you're on a bicycle. You aren't hitting the speed lim...

Hacked gmail/steam accounts
As some of you may know, I have a rather large collection of steam accounts for tf2 idling. I have a gmail account paired with each one of these, unimaginatively named idling1, idling2, etc. The passwords were similarly unimaginative (it was the same one for every alt gmail and team account). On the...

Re: Is this a good deal?
You can probably do better than that by finding combos that just have two items. You get more freedom with your parts, and 3 or 4 pairs with $10-$15 combos will come out to give you more or less the same combo discount.

Re: Building my first Tower
Well, sandy bridge E is out. And, uh, that's a lot of money. You could almost buy 3 2500K or FX-8150s for the cost of a 3930k (and that's the cheap one)! So my advice remains basically the same (tempered by Stephen's points). 1. Figure out what sort of stuff you do most often. Will you benefit more ...

Re: Building my first Tower
Also, be sure to throw plenty of RAM in there for your idle account farm. I'm using at least 4.5GB on my accounts right now, and I'm not even idling my main.

Re: Building my first Tower
One thing to be aware of when building your own machine is that it doesn't have any software on it. At all. That means no windows (nothing for an upgrade to work with either). No antivirus. No Microsoft office. You'll have to buy all those programs that you take for granted. And they're expensive. T...

Re: Building my first Tower
In multithreaded applications, the fx-8150 places between the i5-2500k and the i7-2600k. This is where it ought to be at it's price point ($245 vs $220 for the 2500k). In singlethreaded applications, the fx-8150 places behind the phenom II x6. That isn't multithread focus, that's just embarrassing. ...

Re: Building my first Tower
From what I've been reading, the i5-2500k is still the processor to beat in terms of bang for your buck. It might be worth waiting for sandy bridge-e to release (supposed to be q4 2011 -- right about now, if I know how to calendar). Even if you don't get sandy bridge-e, old sandy bridge will probabl...
